Art of Breath - Maskara: Honoring our roots and the masks we wear
Our Aries Full Moon Art of Breath gathering took on a special significance as we celebrated Filipino American History Month with the theme "Maskara," the Tagalog word for "mask."
Masks hold a powerful symbolism in many cultures, representing everything from hidden identities to social roles. In our gathering, we explored the masks we wear in daily life – the personas we adopt to navigate societal expectations, family dynamics, and even our own fears.
The masks we wear
What I’m referring to is the discontent that occurs when we use our masks to hide from who we truly are. We might’ve become so attached to the many masks we’ve accumulated over time, that it’s created an inner disconnect from our true self: we’ve abandoned ourselves.
